Margaret Rowlett

January 31, 1925 — April 2, 2016

Marg aret "Oakie" Rowlett, a longtime resident of the Glen
Burnie area was called to her eternal home on Saturday, the 2nd of April at
the home of her son and daughter-in-law, William and Debora Rowlett.
Born on January 31, 1925 in Glasgow, Virginia, Oakie moved to the
Baltimore area with her family early in her life.
In 1962, she married Earl Rowlett and together they had one son, William.
Oakie in her younger years worked as a bartender at various prestigious
bars and nightclubs in the Baltimore area. She was also a beautician. After
her husband passed in 1968, Margaret worked at Yoo-Hoo, Good Humor
and General Electric where she retired in 1986. Margaret was very proud of
the fact that she was the first woman fork lift operator at GE and was later
promoted to crane operator.
Margaret was a devout child of God. She was a Diamond member at her
church, John Wesley United Methodist Church of Glen Burnie. She was
recognized as a volunteer for the Department of Aging and had also helped
with various GE charity campaigns such the United Way, AFRO Clean Block
Fund and AFRO's Mrs. Santa Fund.
Margaret leaves to cherish her memory: a loving and devoted son, William
Rowlett; a loving and caring daughter-in-law, Debbie Rowlett; the two best
loving and beautiful granddaughters in the world, Alexandrea Rowlett and
Machea Forkgen and their mother, Lorraine Cali; great-grandchild, Madison
Greene; four extended family great-grandchildren Oakie claimed, Taylor and
Clayton Gooden and Sean and Ava Taylor. She will also be missed by her
closest nephew, Donald Jackson; two stepsons, Roque and Algie Rowlett;
four step daughters, Earline DeYoung and her husband, Raymond, Jacqueline
Rowlett, LaNae Snowden and her husband Gregory, and Marletia Rowlett;
many nephews, nieces, cousins; and a host of other relatives and friends
