Marvin Smith

October 12, 1921 — March 22, 2014

Marvin passed on March 22, 2014. He was born in Baltimore, MD on October 12, 1921 as the son of Clarence W. Smith and F. Pearl Hitchens Smith and brother to John Smith and Martha Smith Twilley.
He grew up in Salisbury, MD attended/graduated from Wicomico High School. He was a distinguished athlete on the football/baseball teams under the direction/guidance of Coach Charlie Berry. He also served at St. Peters Episcopal Church in Salisbury as an acolyte, crucifer and basketball player.
From 1941-45 he served his country as a Tech Sgt 4th Class Special Troops 99th Infantry U.S. Army under General Lauer and General Patton in the European theatre. He served in particular in the Black Forest operations and the Battle of the Bulge.
Marvin retired from Bell Atlantic (now Verizon) in 1985 with 45 years of service as a Director.
He was married to C. Irene Davies for 52 ½ years until her passing in 1998.
He served his community with quiet distinction as president (20+years) of the Gerard Plaza (GP) Improvement Association, GP Bowling League, Harundale Presbyterian Bowling League. He was an Elder for 6 years at Harundale Presbyterian Church. He was a member of B.P.O. Elks #2266 (18 years).
He was true and faithful to his God and fellow beings regardless of age, gender, ethnicity or faith. Truly he was an inspiration in a quiet, calm demeanor from whom to learn. No one disliked him. Everyone seemed to love him instantly.
He is survived by his daughter, Bonnie L. High, nieces Jo Ann Twilley Plichta and Christine Rae Smith Bounds, and nephew Geoffrey Smith.
Viewing on Thursday, March 27th at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, Glen Burnie, MD from 3-5 & 7-9 PM. Service on Friday, March 28th at Harundale Presbyterian Church, Glen Burnie at 1PM.
