Virgil Don Bowling, 97, passed away Sunday, January 23, 2022, at Autumn Lake Healthcare at Waugh Chapel in Gambrills, Maryland.
Don was born January 7, 1925, in Jumping Branch, West Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil Truman and Della Mae Cole Bowling, his first wife Elsie Jean Miller, his second wife Catherine Macadoff, and his youngest daughter Jo Ann Bowling. He was also preceded in death by his sister Virginia Metcalf, a nephew Frank Metcalf, and a brother David Dean.
Those left to cherish Don’s memories are his daughter Donna (Angelo) Meloro, a sister Jo Ann (Frederick) Cole of Virginia, and a brother Gene (Bertha) Bowling of West Virginia. He leaves four granddaughters, Diana (Lou) Parsons, Angela (James) Randall, Katharine Meloro, Francesca (Christian) Moy, and nine great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Christopher, Julienne, Alyssa, Stephanie, Olivia, Sophia, Brooklyn, and Levi. He leaves several nieces, nephews, and one dear friends, Elaine.
Don was a WWII Navy veteran. He served from July 1943 to April 1946. He enjoyed telling stories of his trip around the world on six different naval ships. After the war, he enjoyed spending time with all our families. He like fishing and crabbing on the Chesapeake Bay.
The family will receive visitors at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, P.A., 1 2nd Ave. S. W. (at Crain Hwy) on Saturday, February 5th, from 11 AM to 1 PM. A private interment will be held at Meadowridge Memorial Park.
