Wanda Elcik

Wanda McCauley Elcik was born on June 2, 1930, in Brandywine, West Virginia. Her formative years were shaped by her hardworking grandparents and her mother Maude Eye who sacrificed to provide for her family during the Great Depression. Wanda's love for God was influenced by the community of faith fostered by the Brandywine Christian Church.

A top graduate of the Franklin High School class of 1948, Wanda moved to Baltimore with the intent to earn money for college. Although her college dream was not realized, Wanda excelled in accounting as a new hire at American Health.

Her marriage to Herbert McCauley in 1954 ended tragically with Herb's fatal car crash in 1959. As a single mother of three pre-schoolers, Wanda resourcefully met the needs of her children and her widowed mother-in-law. A Girl Scout leader, Sunday school teacher, PTA volunteer and "Mom's Taxi" to piano lessons and orthodontist appointments, Wanda supported the interests of her kids.

Her generous spirit impacted her community, too. The kitchen at 104 North Meadow Drive in Country Club hosted many late-night Scrabble games, coffee talks and salon sessions for neighbors who appreciated Wanda's willingness to help their hair look its beehive best.

Wanda found love the second time around and married John Elcik in 1974. They enjoyed playing with their grandchildren, reading (and collecting) lots of books, collaborating on crossword puzzles, and traveling to Maine, West Virginia, South Carolina, and Florida.

Wanda loved God. As a member of the Annapolis Church of Christ for over 30 years, she found joy in fellowship, reading the scriptures and participating in group bible studies. She clung to her faith in God and wanted others to know Him.

Widowed once more in 2011, Wanda started a new chapter in her life and made new friends at Brightview Independent Living. For the more than two years she spent there, Wanda continued to live a life of care and concern for others.

Wanda was greatly loved and will be profoundly missed by her family and friends.

In addition to her husbands, Wanda was pre-deceased by her mother, Maude Eye. She is survived by her children: Michael McCauley, Patricia (John) Brush, Diana (Tom) Gardner, James (Terri) Elcik, Jeffrey (Suzy) Elcik, and John (Pam) Elcik. Wanda also leaves 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, P.A., 1 2nd Ave. SW (at Crain Hwy) on Monday from 3-5 & 7-9 PM. A Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 9, at 1 p.m. at the Annapolis Church of Christ, 1601 Ritchie Hwy., Arnold, Md. 21012. Interment MD Veterans Cemetery, Crownsville.
