William Doegen, Sr

WILLIAM CHARLES DOEGEN, Sr, 96, of Glen Burnie, Maryland, passed away
May 20, 2017, at Morningside House of Friendship. He was the son of the late William Doegen and Grace A. Jeffries Doegen. Bill grew up in Brooklyn, Maryland, attended Glen Burnie High School and received his High School Equivalence in 1947. He worked for Samuel Meisel & Co. doing clerical work until he enlisted in the United States Army Air Force, he completed 30 months of Aviation Cadet training, and flew 33 missions over enemy territory in WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1945.

Following the war, he returned to Baltimore with his wife, Marion, now deceased. They had two sons, William, Jr., now deceased, and Timothy. He worked as a buyer for the Hecht Co., in Baltimore until 1948, when he went back to work for Samuel Meisel where he worked as a salesman for 16 years. He then went to work for Connor Trading Co. Inc., and for the next 5 years worked as a salesman to contact ships coming into Baltimore for the sale of sea stores. Later he sold cars for Ritchie Rambler. After his retirement, he enjoyed traveling to Israel, twice, Germany twice for the Passion Play in Oberammergau, Italy and numerous trips in the United States to attend the 379th Bomb Group Reunions.

Bill has been an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Glen Burnie for 60 plus years. He helped paint the interior of the new Church on Oak Manor Drive, has participated in numerous Bible Studies and is presently a member of the Older Adult Ministry. He enjoyed seeing both of his sons baptized and become members of St. Paul's. He is a member of the American Legion and received a military honor salute organized by Hospice of the Chesapeake.

His hobby was creating train gardens with all size trains, houses, streetcars, etc.

He is survived by his wife, Twila, and son, Tim and wife, Barbara, grandson, Nathanial, daughter-in-law, Kathy, and grandchildren, Steve Case and Chris Case and his wife, Jen, and two great grandchildren, Autumn and Ashlyn, and brother, Charles, stepdaughter, Dawn Jones, and husband, Gene, and two step grandchildren, Caitlin and Shelby.


The family will receive visitors at Singleton Funeral and Cremation Services, P.A., 1 2nd Ave, SW (at Crain Hwy), in Glen Burnie on Tuesday, May 23rd, from 3-5 and 7-9 PM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, May 24th, at 12 noon at St. Paul's Lutheran Church 308 Oak Manor Dr. Glen Burnie MD, 21061. Interment Glen Haven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bill's name may be made to St Paul's Lutheran Church OR Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Hwy, Pasadena, MD 21122 OR Partners in Care, 90-B Ritchie Hwy, Pasadena, MD 21122.
