Albert Catroppa

Albert James Catroppa “Sonny”, 91, of Glen Burnie, passed away on Saturday, February, 13, 2021. He was born on June 2, 1929 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Vincenzo and Caroline Catroppa immigrants from Calabria, Italy. He spent 14 years in the United States Air Force, he was a carbine sharp shooter and aircraft engine mechanic, he also attended Arizona State while in the service. He went on to work for Westinghouse as a draftsman, union representative, he also worked with the defense industry helping to design torpedoes, aircraft and guidance equipment for the military. He retired after 37 years of employment with them. He lived in Country Club Estates for over 60 years. Al enjoyed watching the Baltimore Colts and then later the Baltimore Ravens, unless they played the Philadelphia Eagles.

Al could always be found at the Elks club where he was an original member of #2266, he was also a member of the American Legion, and the Moose club. He enjoyed playing gin during the day, and poker in the evening with his buddies. He always extended an open invitation to Italian night at the Elks to his daughters’ in laws. He enjoying taking many golf trips to Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head with his friends from Westinghouse & Elks. Al loved holiday meals at the Chartwell Golf & Country Club with his daughter, her husband and friends. During his later years he would enjoy a meal at the Double T Diner in Pasadena, joking with Louie and his staff. He would go on monthly bus trips from the Elks & Moose Clubs to Delaware Park or Harrington Casinos, and week day visits to the Ferndale Club at American Legion.  He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.

Albert is survived by his loving daughter, Maria Marsteller, and her husband Mark, his sister-in-law, Rose Catroppa, nieces and nephews, Lisa and Ken Teore, Carol, Vince, Joseph, Vincent, Cynthia, and Frank Catroppa. He is predeceased by his brothers, Frank, Alfred, & Domenick Catroppa, his sisters, Marie Giuilli, and Betty Teore, and niece, Carol Catroppa. Visitation will be held at Singleton Funeral & Cremations Services, 1 2nd Avenue SW, Glen Burnie, on Sunday, Feb. 28th, from 1-5PM. A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 1st at 1PM in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville. The family would like for donations to be made in honor of Al’s name to BWMC Foundation at 301 Hospital Drive, Glen Burnie, MD. 21061.
