ALFRED "AL" LAVINDER; 87 of Linthicum / Glen Burnie community, passed away on November 12, 2012 at the Tate Hospice House. Al was born on March 19, 1925 in Roanoke, VA to Wiley W. and Annie L. Lavinder. Mr. Lavinder served in the US Army, 29th Infantry Division as a Sergeant during WWII. On D-Day, June 6, 1944 Al landed in Normandy on Omaha Beach, several days later he would be wounded and was awarded the Purple Heart. He then went to work at Ft. Meade as a Food Supply Supervisor, retiring after 41 years of service. Al was a volunteer at Linthicum Heights United Methodist Church for many years. He enjoyed gardening, flowers and music. Mr. Lavinder was preceded in death by his two son's, Gregory Allen and Dewight Lynn Lavinder; his siblings, Forest, Kyle and Norman Lavinder and Camille Joyce. He is survived by his precious wife of 62 years, Dorothy Lavinder; his daughter-in-law, Gloria Lavinder; his two sisters, Lotherene Black and Faye Mullins; and his brother, Charles Lavinder.
