Alvin J. Phillips, Jr., 87, a resident of Glen Burnie, passed away on January 31, 2013 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center. He was born in Shamokin, PA on August 7, 1925 to the late Alvin and Florence Phillips. Alvin moved to Baltimore in 1940 and joined the Navy in 1942. He fought in the South Pacific during World War II and received the Asiatic-Pacific Medal (1 Star) and the Victory Medal. After his discharge from the Navy, he worked as a mannequin repairman from 1950-1957. Alvin went on to work as a salesman and was employed with Atlantic Copper & Brass Co. in Baltimore and retired in 1986 after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Glen Burnie Elks Lodge 2266 and American Legion Post 40; he was proud to be one of the original members of the Bay Hills Golf Club. In addition to being an avid golfer, he enjoyed playing the drums and loved to sing. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, June H. Phillips (nee Sierer); two children, JoEllen Phillips Staicer and husband Michael and Alvin "Butch" J. Phillips, III; one grandson, Cole Reedy Phillips; one sister, Emma Lou Stump; and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Glen Burnie Elks Lodge 2266, 878 Stevenson Road; Severn, MD 21144.
