Andrew Walker Bailey, 76, of Glen Burnie, MD died on Friday, November 14, 2014 after a long illness. He was born in Baltimore, MD, son of the late George Kennedy Bailey and Marion Walker Bailey. Andy spent his early childhood days at "Wickwire", the Earleville, MD waterfront farm of his parents, with fond memories of evening picnics on the shore with his family and friends, wandering the woods and fields and playing with the family dog, Bonnie. When he was 10 years old, the family moved to Jefferson and Poplar Islands on the Chesapeake Bay, where Andy spent many happy hours hunting, fishing, and crabbing with his younger brother. He graduated from Easton High School in 1956. After graduation he joined the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1959. He then went on to a career with Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, from which he retired in 1999 after 30 years of faithful service. Through the years Andy received tremendous enjoyment observing wildlife, and was especially interested in bird watching. However, the happiest moments of his life were spent at family gatherings, where he listened and laughed at family jokes and tales told many times over.
He is survived by three sons; Randy of Pasadena, MD, Scott and his wife, Martha of Blacksburg, VA, and Tom of Harrington, DE; grandchildren Justin and Hannah Bailey, Jace McDaniel, and Chelsea Bailey; sister, Sally Bent, and brothers Hugh and Peter Bailey; nieces Margie, Anne, Lynn and Wendy, nephews Valliant and Mark and several great- and great-great nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be sent to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 14 Glebe Road, Earleville, MD 21919.
Andy was able to spend his last months at home due to the devoted care of his sons Randy and Tom, and caregiver Michaelina Amoro. He lived his life with dignity and loyalty, a great sense of humor, and most of all his love for his three great sons.
