Barbara Lynn Harrington, 78 years old, of Glen Burnie, MD went home to be with her Father in Heaven on Tuesday, September 14th, after a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. While we grieve here on Earth, we also find peace in knowing that her mind, heart and soul have become whole once more. Barbara was born on September 23rd, 1942 to Kenneth and Ruth Feifarek in Madison, Wisconsin. From a young age, Barbara was both a provider and a teacher in her family and in her classroom. Barbara graduated from the University of Maryland with a Masters in Childhood Education and went on to teach kindergarten and first grade for 35 years. It seemed destined that she would serve and love others with her gifts of teaching, humility and devotion. And she did this with disciplined and consistent care. She lived a simple but significant life, one only the most loyal can truly achieve. In addition to being a dedicated and loving mother, her children will remember her unwavering faith in God, to which they have all found a comfort in during her years of fighting this disease. Among many happy memories, her children remember summers of camping adventures together in their beloved blue van, her time cooking or baking in the kitchen for friends and family, visiting her in her kindergarten classroom, “Sweating to the Oldies”, enjoying her favorite decade of music (the 70’s), playful bickering with her husband and the "Harrington boys", being the trendsetter of every seasons "ugly sweater" and, most of all, witnessing her finding so much joy in being a grandmother. She also enjoyed reading, playing Bridge with her girl friends, gardening, and serving (for over 30 years) at her place of worship, Church of the Crucifixion. She loved animals and was often found with a beloved family cat or dog on her lap. She demanded little attention but has earned so much appreciation for her serving heart and many small acts of kindness.
Barbara is preceded in death by her loving husband, Roderick Harrington, her father, Kenneth Feifarek and brother, Brian Feifarek. She is survived by her children: Patrick Gilligan, Ryan Gilligan, Stacey Price and Rachael Lescarbeau, her stepsons: Stephen, Mitchell, David and Paul Harrington, 8 granddaughters, 5 grandsons, 4 great grandsons, 4 great granddaughters, her siblings: Christopher Feifarek, Jonathan Feifarek, Patricia Reyes, Diane Musachio, mother, Ruth Feifarek and many other extended family members. Her life was well lived and well loved.
