On December 11, 2017, Barbara Ann Kelly Shrum, 86, of Glen Burnie, passed away at Baltimore Washington Medical Center. Barbara was born on October 24, 1931, in Charlotte, North Carolina, to the late Nellie and Clyde Kelly. She started out her entrepreneurial career, along with her husband, owning the Twin Kiss ice cream shop on Ritchie Hwy. She then owned Party Helpers on the 1st floor of Empire Towers and Empire Food Service on the 10th floor, catering for many occasions, but mostly weddings. She then parlayed those ventures into Shrum's Bridal and Formal Wear in the heart of Glen Burnie, which she owned and operated for many years. Barbara was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and she enjoyed gardening, cooking, and hosting holiday parties.
Barbara was predeceased by her devoted husband, Thomas R. Shrum, Jr., and her dear brothers, Richard Kelly and Alton Kelly. She is survived by her loving son, Thomas R. Shrum, III; her cherished grandson, Thomas R. Shrum, IV; and her beloved daughter-in-law, Dawn Shrum.
The family received visitors at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, P.A., 1 2nd Ave, SW (at Crain Hwy), in Glen Burnie, on Sunday, December 17th, from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. A Celebration of Life Service will held Monday, December 18th, at 10 AM in the funeral home chapel. Interment at Glen Haven Memorial Park.
