Bernice M. Hayes was born on February 20th, 1939 in Harmans, Maryland. She was born to the late Joseph and Beatrice (Chandler) Mosley. She received her early education through the Anne Arundel County Public School system. She was a very hard worker who worked at various restaurants before becoming a member of the janitorial staff at schools across the county.
Jesus was truly the head of her life. She was known for telling everyone that, “God’s got me in the palm of his hand.” And when she departed this life on August 16th, 2021, we knew that God had come to take one of his most faithful servants home. She loved praising the Lord and was known to give testimonies about the goodness of God at Fresh Anointing Apostolic Ministries.
Her second love was her family. She could be found spending time with her children, grand and great grandchildren, sister, nieces, and extended family, and getting all of the updates on what was going on in their lives. She was famous for all of the pictures that she loved to take and share amongst her family. We thank God that she has left us with a lifetime’s worth of photographic memories. She was known for her famous dishes which included mashed potatoes, tuna macaroni salad, and, macaroni and cheese. She loved to look good! She loved getting her hair done and was known for her sharp outfits. You could find her at the Value Village getting all the good deals.
She was known for her laugh that could fill a room and draw you in. She will be missed by all who love her but we know that we will see her again at the appointed time. When she arrived at the gates of heaven she was welcomed by those family members who had already made it to the other side including, husband, James Hayes; daughter, Vergie Hayes; grandson, Reginald Shorter, Jr.; sister, Mary Jane Mosley; and brothers, Charles Mosley and, Lawrence Mosley.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, devoted daughter, Valerie Smith-Marshall (James); sons, Glenwood Mosley (Ruth) and, Gregory Hayes; granddaughters, Tanitra (Sweetie) Sellman, Ava Jackson (Troy), and, Shavonne Shorter (Gaston); grandsons, De Shawn Sellman, Derrick Sellman, and, Brandon Mosley; 6 great grandchildren; sister, Irene Pitts; nieces, Carlita Lewis (Larry), Candace Young (Dale), Kathy Blocker (Anthony), and, Nakia Hayes (Rodney); nephews, Lorenzo Dennis (LaKaisha), and, Cameron Dennis; and a host of extended relatives and friends.
