Bertha Cager

February 1, 1948 — October 15, 2022

Glen Burnie

Bertha Mae Casey Cager was born to the union of Cleveland and Ethel Casey on February 1, 1948 in California. She was educated in the California School System and graduated from Oxnard Union High School. Right after graduating, she enlisted in the United States Air Force. On October 18, 1969, she married and started her family. Several years later, she and her young family moved from the West Coast to the East Coast, where her family was further extended after settling in Maryland.

Bertha enjoyed talking to people which led to a productive career in retail sales. She also had several entrepreneurial endeavors and always was sure to support everyone. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and was known by all as “Granny.” Bertha never missed an opportunity to attend all of their milestones. She could be seen on the sidelines at their games, in the audience at graduation, prom send offs, baby showers and most importantly welcoming them into the world. She loved to volunteer, most notably in her Freetown Village Community. She was involved with the Tenant Patrol, Tenant Council and Marching Band. She was a long-time member of the Asbury Town Neck United Methodist Church and was a member of the Welcoming & Hospitality Committee and loved the Johnson Male Chorus and Praise Dancers.

On October 15, 2022, Bertha was called home. She leaves to cherish her memory her seven children, Kimberlee Cager-Graham (Troy), Gerald Cager, Jr., Terri Cager, Tiara Casey, Temppest Casey-Gray (Carlos), Kendrea Casey, Darren Sedgwick (Carol); Twenty-three grandchildren: Lauren, Julisa, Darius, Imani, Javier, Ke’Shon, Ke’Aysa, Marcus, Mikiyah, Malcolm, Nasir, Zion, Keane Jr,  Moriah, Dontaine Jr, DeMyen, Tyler-Marie, Aalimah, Shane, Ameena (deceased), Darren Jr., Giselle, Blessing; five great-grandchildren: Kamari, Kaiden, Kingston, A’zara and Imari; siblings: Rahburt, Bessie (deceased), Breeetty (deceased), Brenda, Lenda, Clarence (deceased), Cleveland aka Boona (Kim); special friends: Joan, Barbara, Gregory, Ivy, Sharon, Ms. Mary Lauber, Wanda; godchildren: Lashawnda & Delroy; and a host of relatives and friends.
