Betty Workman

Betty Louise (Painter) Workman, 84, of Glen Burnie, passed into the arms of the Lord on September 25, 2014, on her 84th birthday, in hospice care at Pasadena Home Care, after a long and valiant struggle with Alzheimer's.
Betty was born in Baltimore on September 25, 1930, the youngest of four daughters of the late William and Rose (Clark) Painter. On July 17, 1948, she married the love of her life, Charles Gene Workman, in Memphis, TN. After living in Memphis for several years, they resided briefly in Arkansas, then moved back east to Arbutus before settling down in Glen Burnie to raise their family. Together they were blessed with 63 years of marriage before Gene's passing on October 26, 2011.
A 1948 graduate of Western High School in Baltimore, Betty was a homemaker for many years. As her children got older, she entered the workforce as an executive secretary for the Maryland Automobile Insurance Fund, from which she retired. She developed lifelong friendships with her work colleagues Tom, Sharon, and Sheila. She also served as a Red Cross volunteer during the Vietnam era at Kimbrough Army Hospital at Fort Meade.
In addition to her husband and her parents, she was predeceased by her grandson Andrew Scott Hoffman and her sisters Dorothy (Painter) Stoecker, Evelyn (Painter) Tirschman), and Marion (Painter) Jarman Kistner.
Betty is survived by three children: Betty "Jean" (Workman) Keen and her husband Richard Keen of Mount Wolf, PA; Charles Douglas (Doug) Workman and his wife Patti Workman of Melbourne, FL; and Donna Leigh (Workman) Hoffman and her husband Bryan Hoffman of Glen Burnie. She also leaves six grandchildren: Jennifer Lynn Keen of Mount Wolf, PA; Renie Marie (Workman) Meyer and her husband Jon Meyer of Shavertown, PA; Lieutenant Charles Douglas (Chad) Workman II, US Navy and his wife Kate Workman of Corpus Christi, TX; Amy Lynn Workman of Philadelphia, PA; Ashley Marie (Hoffman) Yeagley and her husband Dan Yeagley of Hanover, PA; and Amy Lynn Hoffman of Glen Burnie. Betty is also survived by 3 great-grandchildren: Natalie Faith Hoffman of Glen Burnie; Jacob Daniel Yeagley of Hanover, PA; and Olivia Claire Meyer of Shavertown, PA. Two more great-grandchildren are due to be born next month to the Yeagley and Meyer families. Betty also leaves numerous nieces and nephews.
Betty leaves behind a legacy of love. She was the sweetest, kindest, most gentle woman you could ever hope to meet. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved nature, especially watching the bunnies hopping through her yard and cardinals and blue jays flying outside her windows. She enjoyed watching Orioles Baseball and Ravens Football on television. She loved her dogs, which through the years included Bootsie, Tuppins, Kea, Keisha, and especially Mollie and Muffin. Mom was an angel among us who showed us how to live, taught us how to give, and guided us with the light of love. Although her journey has taken a new path, she will be forever in our hearts and will now watch over us from above.
