Catherine Olivo

January 29, 1979 — April 18, 2014

On Friday, April 18, 2014, CATHERINE MATOS OLIVO, of Puerto Rico, passed away at the age of 35, after a hard-fought battle with Breast Cancer. Catherine was born on January 29, 1979 in Bayamon, Puerto Rico to the late Rafael Matos Lopez and Aida Olivo Ortiz. Catherine earned her Master's Degree in Art/New Media from the Trans Art Institute in Austria. After graduation, Catherine became a college professor in Puerto Rico at both the Escuela de Artes Plasticas and the Universidad de Sagrado Corazon.
Catherine at a young age took a liking to Art itself and it showed throughout her life, her work, her teachings and her personality. She enjoyed creating new art no matter how difficult it may have been for her, such as work she created about her mother and her illness of Alzheimer's. Catherine even embraced her own illness of Breast Cancer and generated it into her own work of Art. She enjoyed listening to music, going to the beach, adventure and exploration. Adventure and Exploration was something that came with her passion for the Arts. She traveled to Italy, London, Germany, Austria, Chicago, and New York and drew new ideas and touched everyone she came into contact with both in her work and her personality. Catherine was what you would call a "Fashionista" who liked to cook, eat good food, and have good time with many friends in her "Palomar."
As she did in her life, never forgot about her family and friends, we will never forget her, her big smile, and contagious laugh. She will be remembered as a caring, loving creative, funny and cheerful young artist and young women.
Catherine is survived by her loving sister, Catalina Holden, her dear brother-in-law, Mark Holden; her cherished nephew and niece, Raphael and Kimberly Holden, her two cats Tigre, and Chica and her many beloved friends.
