Charles A. Beatty, 87, died March 24 in Parkville. He was born Nov. 28, 1923, in Jessup, to the late Joseph and Mary Beatty, and retired from the B&A Railroad in 1983 after 42 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Staff Sergeant, and received two Purple Hearts serving in the Pacific. He was a member of the Pascal Senior Center and the Marley Walkers, and enjoyed bird and duck wood carving, Caning for Chairs, model trains, and traveling within the United States visiting state capitals and the homes of former Presidents. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Marjorie Beatty; sister, Eleanor Mahoney; and brother, Harry Beatty. He is survived by three sisters, Marie N. Young, Thelma M. Collins and Catherine F. Joslin; sister-in-law, Ahola Beatty; niece, Sharon Blough; and many other nieces and nephews.
