Charles Hashagen

Charles Henry Hashagen, 85, of Glen Burnie passed away on January 12, 2014. Charles was born on November 4, 1928 in Baltimore, MD to the late Agnes and Henry Hashagen. He was a graduate of the Maryland Institute of Art. Charles served his country in the Korean War effort, active duty for 2 years with his Comrades of Company G, 279th Infantry 45th Division, Thunderbirds, and was decorated with the Bronze Star. Charles was an active member of Glen Lutheran Church for the past 55 years, where he held many leadership positions. After he retired, he also became a volunteer at North County Emergency Outreach Network and served as their Vice President for 18 years. He received the Carter Award and was nominated Volunteer of the Year. Charles was also a member of the Scottish Rite Masonic Lodge #213, and was Boy Scout Leader of Troop 849 for 14 years.
He was a man with many interests. One of his proudest accomplishments was building the Eisenmadel in his yard, a 32 foot steel haul sailboat. He also enjoyed the history of aeronautics, diving, boat building, painting and drawing, and enjoyed hunting. His family brought him a lot of pride and joy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Hashagen. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Eloise Deskins Hashagen; two children, Gary Hashagen and his wife Kay, and Patricia Stratmann and her husband Larry; 9 grandchildren, Luke (fiancé Marlene), Erika (fiancé Daniel), Katie, Laura, Kelly (husband Michael), Micah, Alex, Gavin, and Carly; and 4 great-grandchildren, Aiden, Caleb, Ryan, and Adam.
