Charles Workman

Charles Gene Workman, 83, of Glen Burnie entered heaven on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 after a bout with cancer. Born March 4, 1928 to Omie Mae and Pleasant Calvin Workman of Murray, Kentucky, Gene or "Charlie", as known to some, grew up in his home in Murray, until entering the United States Marine Corps upon graduation from Murray High School. Graduating from Parris Island, he served six years and was discharged as a Corporal. In 1948, he married Betty L. Painter of Baltimore, Maryland. He began a life of service to his fellow man.

Gene Workman was a good man. He was known and respected as a man of honor and integrity, who inspired us always striving to do what was right because it was the right thing to do. He instilled those values into his entire family, who now carry on his excellent family values and service work ethic. We are proud that whatever his hands found to do in life, he did it with all his might. Most important, he showed us what love of a spouse means, as he devoted himself to his wife until he was no longer able to do so. He was ready to "go home" and told us so. For this, we are grateful and assured. Such a testament of faith to his Maker is rare indeed. Gene is at peace. "2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful." We are proud of him. "Semper Fidelis" Gene.

He is survived by his wife, Betty of 63 years; his daughters Betty Jean Keen, a retired sonographer and her husband Richard of Mount Wolf, Pennsylvania, his daughter, Donna L. Hoffman, a nurse at Baltimore Washington Medical Center, and her husband Bryan of Glen Burnie, and his son, Doug Workman, a school principal in Melbourne, Florida, and his wife Patti of Memphis, Tennessee. He and Betty have seven grandchildren, Jenny Keen of Felton, Pennsylvania, Renie Meyer, a television reporter in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and her husband Jon, Lieutenant Chad Workman, United States Navy, a pilot currently deployed overseas, Amy Workman, an accounting graduate student at Penn State University, Ashley Yeagley, a nurse at Carroll Hospital Center, and her husband Dan, Andrew Hoffman, a Baltimore City Firefighter, and Amy Hoffman, a criminal justice student at University of Baltimore. They have two great-grandchildren, Jake Yeagley and Natalie Hoffman of Maryland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Association Greater Maryland Chapter, 1850 York Road, Suite D, Timonium, MD 21093.
