Daniel “Dan” Wayne Singleton, 72, of Woodbine, Maryland, passed away at his home on Saturday, September 9, 2023. Dan was born September 29, 1950 in Springfield, Missouri to parents Rex L. Singleton and Shirley Heard Singleton Draper.
Dan enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1970 and was stationed around the world, including at bases in Iceland, Guam, Alaska, and Ft. Meade, Maryland. After nearly 21 years of active military service, he retired in 1991 as a Chief Warrant Officer (CWO-03) from one of his favorite duty stations, the Naval Security Group in Washington, D.C.
Dan had a passion for music that only grew throughout his lifetime. He loved to play guitar and listen to a wide range of music genres, although The Beatles remained a lifelong favorite. After retirement from his post-Navy work in the private sector, Dan completed the Maryland Woodland Stewardship Education program to learn more about appropriate land stewardship practices, forestry, and wildlife habitat management on forested residential property.
But there was nothing Dan loved more than his family. He was an absolutely devoted husband, an unconditionally loving father, and an extremely proud grandfather. He especially enjoyed family vacations to Deep Creek Lake, which were filled with board games, ice cream, and laughter. His family knows without question that there was nothing Dan would not do for them.
Dan is survived by his wife, Rebecca Singleton, his children, April (Gregg) Pritchard and Matthew (Shannon) Singleton, five grandchildren, Noah, Lily, and Ian Pritchard and Cormac and Ainsley Singleton, and brother, Don (Debbie) Singleton. He is preceded in death by his parents, Rex Singleton and Shirley Singleton Draper.
