David M. Burke, 86, a 45 year resident of Glen Burnie died of natural causes at St. Agnes Hospital on October 6, 2012. Mr. Burke was born on August 3, 1926 in Lynn, Massachusetts and raised in Peabody, Massachusetts. He graduated from Peabody High School in 1944 and immediately volunteered for the U.S. Navy. He served in the South Pacific in WWII. Under the WWII GI Bill, Mr. Burke attended Suffolk University Law School in Boston, graduating in 1952 and was sworn in as an Attorney in Boston that same year. He moved to Glen Burnie in 1959 to work for the Social Security Administration and the Medicare Program in various legal positions. He retired in 1987 after 32 years of Federal Government service.
Mr. Burke enjoyed his family, traveling, eating out and collecting things. He was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Glen Burnie for 45 years and was active in the Religious Education Program, Senior Eucharistic Minister and Usher. He also was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Knights of Columbus, Federal Bar Association and the National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Beryl M. Burke; two brothers, James M. Burke, Jr. and Lawrence Burke; two sisters, Eileen M. Winston and Christina Burke; his parents, James and Sarah Ann Burke and son-in-law, Navy Lt. Michael Hayes, who died in a plane crash off the Azores in 1978. He is survived by his two daughters, Karen F. Hayes of Orlando, FL, Kathleen M. Marshall of Kent Island; his three sons, Michael D. Burke of Pasadena, Warren J. Burke of Ellicott City and Kevin R. Burke of White Marsh; his sister, Mary Lawless of Lynn, MA and his brother, Richard T. Burke of Peabody, MA. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
