In Loving Memory of David Allan Macey
David Allan Macey, 70, of Odenton, formerly of Linthicum, passed away peacefully at his home on January 3, 2025. David was born in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Diane and Russell Macey, Sr. He graduated from Bowie High School in 1972, where he was a proud member of the Varsity Wrestling team. His passion for wrestling later led him to co-found the Bowie Wrestling Hall of Fame with some of his former teammates.
David earned his bachelor’s degree from Frostburg State University in 1976. Afterward, he enjoyed a successful career working for Toyota Motor Sales and Dealernet. He was also a dedicated member of Andover Pool, where he ran the Tiger Café and could always be found at the grill during swim meets, serving everyone with a smile.
David was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, where he founded the youth girls' basketball program. Over the course of 10 years, he coached all three of his daughters and their friends on various "Angels" teams. Outside of his coaching and volunteer work, David was an avid movie-goer, enjoying regular trips to Universal Studios in Florida. In the summertime, he could often be found at his condo in Ocean City, MD, where he loved spending time on the beach and cruising the bay aboard his pontoon boat.
David’s favorite moments were spent attending his daughters’ and grandchildren’s sporting events, often with a large camcorder slung over his shoulder. He was ahead of his time, creating sports and music videos for everyone to enjoy. He had an infectious smile, a warm and kind nature, and was always there for anyone who needed his help. His love for his family, his dachshunds, and his birthday celebrations will be remembered by all who knew him. Although Parkinson's hindered his mobility in his later years, David remained as sharp as ever attending sporting, social and family events until his final days.
David was preceded in death by his brothers, Michael and Christopher Macey. He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 45 years, Leslie P. Macey; his loving children, Julie Ashburn (Jason), Annie Houghton (Corey), and Page Menefee (David); his cherished grandchildren, Hayley and Braden Ashburn, Brynn Houghton, and Peyton and Drew Menefee; and his beloved brother, Russell Macey, Jr.
