On January 29, 2016, Mr. David L. Swafford, 68, of Glen Burnie, passed away at the Hospice of the Chesapeake Inpatient Care Center. Mr. Swafford was born on May 13, 1947, in Baltimore, MD, to Charles Swafford and Leola Hickman. David attended Stranahan High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fl. Mr. Swafford joined the U.S.M.C. right after high school in 1966 and honorably severed our country until 1986, retiring as a Staff Sergeant. He fought in Vietnam and received 3 purple hearts. He was also selected to the Marine Barracks. 8th and I Street in Washington, D.C. David belonged to the Ellicott City V.F.W., the American Legion Post 40, and the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed model ship building, fishing, camping on the river, cooking, but most of all spending time with his family.
Mr. Swafford is survived by his wife of 48 years, JoAnn Swafford. He is also survived by his children, David L. Swafford, Jr., and Michele Nichols and her husband Paul, his granddaughters, Erica and Heather Swafford, and Emily Nichols, and his siblings: Hazel Cohee, Barbara George, and Daniel Swafford.
The family request memorial contributions to be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or Wounded Warrior Project.
