David C. Zickafoose

January 5, 1951 — February 10, 2023

David Carl Zickafoose, 72, of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed away on February 10, 2023, at Doey’s House in Hagerstown.  David was born in Hinton, West Virginia, on January 5, 1951, to the late Geraldine “June” and Junior Zickafoose.   He graduated in 1969 from Northeast High School in Pasadena, Maryland, and went on to serve his country proudly in the United States Army.  He then went on to work for General Motors and retired after 25 years of service.   David spent several years as an assistant football coach at Linganore High School.  He was a die-hard Ravens fan, loved the Orioles as well, and collected baseball memorabilia.

On February 1, 1985, David married the love of his life, Gail (Miller) Wood, who predeceased him on November 21, 2010.  He never stopped mourning her loss.

David is survived by his cherished brother, Wayne Zickafoose, whom he loved dearly, and Wayne’s three sons: Eric, Kevin and Michael; Gail’s son, Marty Wood and his wife Cathi; and three grandchildren, Emily Wood, Joshua Wood, and Hannah Wood, whom he adored.  He is also survived by Trish Schneider, former daughter-in-law; his sister-in law, Marian Wentker and several aunts, an uncle, nieces and cousins.

In addition to Gail and his parents, David was predeceased by Gail’s parents, George and Marian Miller, Gail’s son, Mark Wood,  Gail’s brother-in-law,Wayne Wentker and Dave’s sister-in-law, Susie Zickafoose.

Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, P.A., 1 2nd Avenue, S.W. (at Crain Hwy) in Glen Burnie, on Saturday, February 18th, from 12 noon to 1 PM.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held immediately following in the funeral home chapel.  A private interment will be held at Glen Haven Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in David’s name are requested to go to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org/donate
