Donald B. Merritt, Sr., 89, of Baltimore, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Thursday, March 25th, 2021. He was born on April 19, 1932 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Augusta & Roland Merritt. He attended Catonsville High School and was in the graduating Class of 1949. He joined the United States Air Force and served his country from 1951-1953. Donald worked for Baltimore Gas & Electric and retired after 38 years of employment. He was an avid fan of the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens, and enjoyed watching them play. Donald was also a lifetime member of the American Legion. He will truly be missed by all his family and friends.
Donald is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Dorothy, his sons, Donald Merritt, Jr. and Timothy (Pearl) Merritt, his daughters, Donna Marsiglia (Jeff Rogers), Amy (Donald) Ireland, and brothers, Gordon Merritt, and Paul (Dolly) Merritt. Along with his 9 grandchildren, Kristen, Stacie, Timothy, Sarah, Ashley, Rachel, Adam, Brooke, and Abby, and his 8 great-grandchildren, Holden, Lily, Lynsea, Timothy, Rose, Hudson, Tatum, and Natalie. He is predeceased by his brother Roland Merritt, and 2 sister-in-laws, Jeanette Merritt and Nancy Merritt. In lieu of flowers, the family request a donation be made in honor of his name to Hospice of the Chesapeake.
The family will receive visitors at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, P.A., 1 2nd Ave. SW (at Crain Hwy), on Tuesday, March 30th, from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. and a Celebration of Life service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 31st at St. John Lutheran in Linthicum, located at 300 West Maple Road, Linthicum, Maryland 21090. Interment at MD Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.
