Dorothy Mae Ferres-Acker, 92 of Glen Burnie passed away on March 30, 2015. Dorothy was born December 23, 1922 in Baltimore, MD to the late Catherine L. and James H. Pursley. She has lived in the Glen Burnie area since 1952. Dorothy worked as an inspector at the Westinghouse Corp. for 32 years before retiring in 1989. After retirement, she became very involved with the American Legion Auxiliary, active as President, Treasurer and Chaplain and supported all their programs. She found reward serving Veterans and the community. Dorothy received many awards of appreciation and was honored as Most Beautiful Person in Anne Arundel County in 1991 and 1994. She was a member of the Glen Burnie United Methodist Church, and formally of Linthicum United Methodist Church. Dorothy also belonged to VFW#160, Bay Country Moose, Purple Heart Auxiliary Chapter 122, and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit#40. She is survived by her son, Roland Smith; daughter, Evelyn Cook; sister-in-law, Paula Pursley; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family. She was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Joe D. Ferres and 2nd husband, Grant D. Acker; her daughter, Kathleen Sauers; brother, Raymond Pursley; sister, Iris Garmer; grandson, Robert Benges; and great-grandson, Bruce Gant.
The family will receive visitors between 12 - 1PM on Thursday, with a 1PM Celebration of Life Service in the funeral home chapel at Singleton Funeral Home.
