Elizabeth "Betty" Mae (Armiger) Newbill, 99, a long-time resident of Severn, MD passed away peacefully on Monday, May 3rd at the San Jose Care Home in Columbia, MD. Betty was born to William and Alice Armiger in Gibson Island, MD on January 5, 1922. Although Betty did not like travelling, she lived overseas in three different countries and in Hawaii. Betty enjoyed chocolate, gardening, and an occasional bus trip. Betty worked for the telephone company and a dress shop, and volunteered at the Fort Meade Thrift Shop.
Betty is preceded in death by husband of 39 years, Marion Leigh Newbill (d. 1980). She was also a 25-year companion of Chester Norris (d. 2010). She leaves behind her three sons and their wives: John Leslie & Barbara Newbill, Gordon Leigh & Carol Newbill, and William Thomas & Jill Newbill. She was also proud of her 40+ grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren ranging from 3 months to 56 years of age. She is also preceded in death by her sister Alice Lee (Armiger) Wright and William Leslie Armiger.
The family will receive visitors at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, P.A., 1 2nd Ave. SW (at Crain Hwy) on Tuesday, May 11th from 2-4 & 6-8 pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 12th at 11 am in the funeral home chapel. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery will be scheduled for a later date.
