Emil Hartmann

November 1, 1938 — August 14, 2015

On August 14, 2015, Emil William Hartmann, of Glen Burnie, passed away at Harbor Hospital. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland on November 1, 1938 to the late Florence and Emil Hartmann and went on to graduate from Mount Saint Joseph High School in 1957. At age 14, playing the snare drum, he started in his first drum corps, The Monastery Drum Corps. He then went on to march in the 29th Division Drum Corps, where he met his future wife, Gloria. They both marched in the Kenwood Cadets and Emil went on to the Yankee Rebel Drum & Bugle Corps in 1960. In 1989, an alumni corps was assembled to march in the American Legion Parade in Baltimore City. He then moved on to the Middle River Ancient Drummers where he was a current member on the rudimental snare drum. Emil was a charter member of the Ferndale Community Club and enjoyed drumming, cheering on the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens, and spending time with his family & friends.
Emil is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Gloria Hartmann; his beloved children, Cynthia Roback and her husband Vince, and Craig Hartmann; his cherished grandchildren, Jayson Stichberry and Courtney Stichberry; and his dear brother, Dennis Hartmann.
Visitation will be held at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, 1 2nd Ave, SW (at Crain Hwy) in Glen Burnie, today, Wednesday, August 19, from 3-5 & 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 20, at 10:00 AM at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 6405 S.Orchard Road in Linthicum. Interment Cedar Hill Cemetery.
