It is with great sadness to write this obituary about Felipe Antonio Vazquez Cotto's life. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Felipe was born on January 3, 1972 in Caguas, Puerto Rico to the late Felipe Vazquez Rivera and Marcelina Cotto Echevarria. Felipe passed away suddenly on November 4, 2018 at the age of 46 years. He graduated from Jose Gautier Benitez high school in Caguas, Puerto Rico, and he attended Universidad del Turabo pursuing a bachelor's degree in Criminal Psychology in Puerto Rico.
He aspired experiencing adventures and life outside of the island and he joined the Army at 22 years old. While in the Army, Felipe served tours in Panama, the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Korea, Germany and Iraq. He served during Operation Iraqi Freedom. His awards and decorations include Meritorious Service Medals (4), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal (3), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Army Superior Unit Award, Army Good Conduct Medal (6), National Defense Service Medal (2), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (4), and Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. He honorably served 20 years in the Army and retired as a Sergeant First Class. In his life after military service he attended University of Maryland University College where he pursued and graduated with a bachelor in Psychology.
He was an ESPN enthusiast and a lover of all sports (he even loved to watch bowling on ESPN). He loved the outdoors, enjoyed camping, bike riding, playing with his dogs (Khaleesi and Kristina) and seeking new adventures with his wife. He is survived by his wife of three years, Leslie Alvarez, and his five sisters, Conrada, Rosa, Lucy, Socorro, Carmen Vazquez Cotto, and his brother Ursino Vazquez Cotto, and children from a previous marriage-Dylan and Xander.
The family will receive visitors at Singleton Funeral and Cremation Services, P.A., 1 2nd Avenue, S.W. Glen Burnie, Maryland 21061 Friday November 9, 2018, 3-5pm and 7-9pm.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2018, at 1pm in the funeral home chapel at Singleton Funeral and Cremation Services, P.A., 1 2nd Avenue, S.W. Glen Burnie, Maryland 21061.
