Frances Sander

May 18, 1926 — August 25, 2008

On August 25, 2008, Frances M. "Dubby" Sander (nee Crawford), a life-long resident of Odenton, died from Alzheimer's Disease at Crofton Care and Rehabilitation Center. Dubby was born in Odenton to the late Fielder and Lillian Clark Crawford. She was an active life member of both Trinity United Methodist Church in Woodwardville, and the Forks of the Patuxent Improvement Association. After graduating from Glen Burnie High School in 1943, Dubby traveled by train from Odenton Station to her employment at the Treasury Department in Washington, D.C. In 1945, she transferred to Ft. Meade, where she worked until her marriage in 1947. Dubby married Melvin "Fritz" Sander on April 30, 1947, and worked beside her husband on the family farm. From 1959-2001, she was also employed as a school bus driver and worked for Pokorny, R.N. Richardson, and Smith Bus Services. When election day came, she volunteered and was selected to work as a Chief Judge for the Board of Supervisors of Elections for Anne Arundel County. During summer vacations from school, Dubby and Fritz very much enjoyed boating and fishing together on the Chesapeake Bay. She especially took pride in always catching the first fish! Dubby was well known for delivering fresh fish and/or fresh picked vegetables to her church family, relatives, friends, and neighbors. We have missed her spunk, feistiness, determination, and sense of humor for a long time now, and will continue to do so. Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Fritz; daughter Linda M. Egolf, of Odenton; and two sisters, Margaret E. Hornbeck of Severna Park, and Mildred L. Akers of Severn.
