Frances Smith

Frances Clara Smith, 94, of Ferndale and recently of Port Saint Lucie, Florida peacefully went home to be with the Lord on May 4, 2013. Born April 9, 1919, in Baltimore to Albert and Marie Cunningham, Frances worked at McCormick Spice Co. until her marriage to Kenneth T. Smith on June 8, 1941. She proudly served during WWII as an air raid warden in Baltimore City. She was in charge of making sure all lights were out at night so bombers did not spot the city. Frances and Kenneth had one child, a son Kenneth T. Smith II.

After the sudden death of her husband in 1956, Frances served as a Baltimore City Police School Crossing Guard. She later worked at the Social Security Administration until her retirement in May of 1981. Frances enjoyed bowling, bus trips, crocheting, animals and reading. She was a devout Catholic and a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Glen Burnie, MD.

In addition to her parents and husband, Frances is predeceased by her siblings, Albert Cunningham, Joseph Cunningham, Thomas Cunningham, Emily Diegel, Lillian Cunningham and Lucille Somers. Frances is survived by her only son, Kenneth T. Smith (Mary) of Port Saint Lucie, Florida; her God-daughter, Charlene Arconti nee Wroten (Bart and LB) of Pasadena, MD; 3 grandsons, Steven Smith of Glen Burnie, MD, Michael Smith of Columbia, MD and Matthew Smith of Pasadena, MD; 1 great-grandson, Austin Smith of Ocala, FL; and 1 great-granddaughter, Kaylie Marie Smith of Dundalk, MD.
