On May 29, 2012 Francis S. Ireland, 92, a resident of Linthicum for 49 years, passed away at Harbor Hospital. He was born on June 12, 1919 to the late Benjamin and Nettie Ireland. He served in the United States Army 1941-1945. During his service, he received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Ribbon and European African Middle Service Ribbon. Francis was employed as a truck driver for Mountainside Transport, a contractor for A&P food stores. He enjoyed traveling to Disney World, gardening, home improvements, working outside, an avid sports fans, especially the Orioles and Ravens, and dining out with family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy; four sisters and one brother. He is survived by his children, Gary and Sandy of Linthicum; brother, Joseph "Mickey" Ireland of Brooklyn Park and many nieces and nephews.
