George Benkert

September 14, 1934 — January 25, 2018

George Eugene Benkert, 83, of Glen Burnie, passed away on January 25, 2018 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center. George was born in Baltimore, graduated from Mount Saint Joseph High School, served in the U.S. Army, and retired after 41 years at BGE. George was a devout Catholic, an avid boater, fisherman, and member of the Ferndale Community Club.
George was predeceased by his parents, George and Margaret Benkert, owners of Benkert's Park Restaurant in Baltimore.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Georgette Benkert (Somers), his brother, Michael Benkert of Utah, his sister, Mary Ellen Elsmore of Virginia, and step-son, Vincent Nachylowski. We will miss his big smile.
The family will receive visitors at Singleton Funeral and Cremation Services, P.A., 1 2nd Ave. SW at Crain Hwy) on Tuesday, January 30th, from 3-5 and 7-9 PM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, January 31st, at 10 AM in the funeral home chapel. Interment New Cathedral Cemetery in Baltimore.
