George Kline, Jr

October 7, 1929 — October 25, 2018

Mr. George Frederick Kline, Jr, 89 of Linthicum Maryland passed into eternal life on October 25th. The son of George F. Kline Sr. and Marie Louise Kline (née Dorbert) he was born and raised in Baltimore. He attended Catholic parochial school and went onto the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute. Following service in the Marine Corps during the Korean conflict he attended the University of Maryland, College Park on the G.I. Bill where he met his wife of nearly 50 years, the late Mrs. Barbara J. Kline (née Brennan). Together they would eventually settle in northern Anne Arundel County and raise three children. Like his father, George worked at Bethlehem Steel in Sparrows Point where he was a foreman in the mold yard. A devout Catholic, George witnessed his faith through his love for his family and friends as well as an active involvement in the Church and his local community. He was a founding member of St. Philip Neri Parish in Linthicum where he sang bass in the choir and was active in the Men's Club. While living in Pleasantville, he served as President of the North Glen Improvement Association and coached North Glen Little League Baseball and Gridiron Football. He and his family later moved to Linthicum. Though he was involved in many civic organizations including the Knights of Columbus (Holy Trinity Council) and the Order of the Alhambra (Jerez Caravan), one of his greatest joys was his work with youth in the Boy Scouts of America where he served as a Scoutmaster, Committee Member and Commissioner. For his work in the Scouting movement he was honored with the St. George Award and the Silver Beaver. Toward the end of his long Scouting career he was particularly dedicated to Special Boy Scout Troop 216, a unit for scouts with developmental disabilities. He enjoyed camping at Point Lookout, crabbing, and traveling, especially to Ireland of which he always said, "Ireland was lovely, and the Guinness was good". A charming and lovable curmudgeon with warm grin and a rich capacity for friendship, George was a man of quiet but deep faith that shone through his unassuming and selfless love for his family, friends, and community. Preceded in death by his wife Barbara, he is survived by children Kathleen Daciek and husband Mike, Kevin G. Kline and wife Geoconda, Timothy and wife Lisa, Brothers Frank and Albert, Grandchildren: Allison, Patrick, Geoconda, Jaimie, Cristina, Lauren, and Tyler, Great Grandchildren: Christopher, Declan and Adela, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
