Gloria Catherine Milliken (nee Kates), 90, of Glen Burnie passed away on September 4, 2013. Gloria was born on December 28, 1922 in New York City, NY. She attended school on Staten Island, NY and later graduated from Underwood-Elliott Fischer Business College with a degree in Accounting. Gloria worked for Church Home and Hospital in Baltimore as Director of Activities where she retired in 1987. She worked for several years at the North Arundel Convalescent Center. Gloria finally retired in 2002, at the age of 80, from Stitches With Design in Pasadena where she was the Bookkeeper/Office Manager. Gloria was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church on Oak Manor Road. She was also a member of Women of the Moose Chapter #1176, AARP, Pascal Senior Center, American Legion Auxiliary #276, the Fenton Art Glass Collectors of America, and the National Society of Glass Collectors. Gloria also volunteered for several years at Baltimore Washington Medical Center where she is also a member of the Women's Auxiliary. Her hobbies included crocheting, knitting, playing bingo, taking trips to casinos, traveling, playing card games (especially bridge), and spending time with her family, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved antiques and was an avid Fenton Art Glass Collector. Gloria enjoyed writing poetry and wrote a book of poems titled "Simplicity in Poetry", which the contents had been copyrighted, although she never did have the book published. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1989, William (Bill) Milliken, Sr.; and her son in 1972, Leonard H. Milliken. She is survived by two sons, Kenneth T. Milliken of Glen Burnie, and William D. Milliken, Jr. of White Marsh; three daughter-in-laws, Marsha L. and Donna M. Milliken and Linda F. Grunder; five grandchildren, Leonard H. Milliken, Jr. of Crownsville, Shawn M. Milliken of Pasadena, Colleen N. Milliken of Glen Burnie, and Megan and Ashley Milliken of White Marsh; and six great-grandchildren, Natalie, Luke, Lawson, Dalton, McKenna and Caitlyn Milliken.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to St. Paul's Lutheran School, 308 Oak Manor Drive, Glen Burnie, MD 21061.
