Mr. Harry L. Hewett, 92, of Glen Burnie, Maryland passed away on February 23, 2010 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center. Harry Lawrence Hewett was born on June 15, 1917 in Brunswick County, NC to the late Charlie Hewett and Cornelia Milligan Hewett. He attended school in North Carolina, and began working cutting firewood for the school while there. He began farming and fishing after school until joining the U.S. Army in 1940. In the Army, he was stationed at Fort Bragg, Paris, TN, Camp Gordon, GA, in the Aleutian Islands, and in Alaska. After his discharge from the military, he began farming on his father's farm, near Shallotte, NC. Later he began working as a cook on a dredge boat for nine years. In 1967 he moved to Maryland where he worked at North Arundel Hospital doing maintenance and later at Anne Arundel Community College as a security guard. He retired in 1979, and enjoyed fishing, taking daily walks, and socializing.
Mr. Hewett leaves behind four children, Cheryl Woodcock, Kathy Midget, Marsha Johnson, and Bruce Hewett; two step children, Faye Grimes and Margaret Phebus, 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife , Margaret Roland Hewett; three brothers, Willie, Coby, and Floyd Hewett, and a grandson, Mark Phebus.
