Helen "Bu" Rykiel, 93, a resident of Linthicum for 61 years, passed away on April 18, 2015 at St. Joseph's Nursing Home. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland on August 7, 1921 to the late John and Louise May. Helen was a member of Polish National Alliance, Glen Burnie Moose Lodge and St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. In addition to being a devoted housewife and mother, she was a proprietor of Jerry's Liquors in Curtis Bay and during World War II, she was Rosie the Riveter at Bethlehem Steel. Helen enjoyed cooking, gardening and being a mother to all who walked through her door. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Rykiel.
Helen is survived by her children, Gerard Rykiel, Patricia Shahverdian, Ramona Hasenbein, Susan Russel, John Rykiel, Jr., Christopher Rykiel, JoAnn Logue and Randall Rykiel; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and her brother, John May.
