Irene Riley

Irene Rosetta Riley, 93, of Glen Burnie passed away on Oct. 7, 2017.
Irene was born on May 10, 1924 to the late Thomas Edward and Annie (Applebee) Tomlinson in London, England. Irene was very independent and somewhat naïve as a child those two traits mixed together led her to join the British Army at age 16 where she assisted the gunners. While attending a USO dance she met an Army soldier, Woodrow Daniel Riley and became a, "War Bride" on May 25, 1944. Together they had five children and Irene enjoyed being a homemaker and a supportive military wife. During the early years of their marriage she lived between England and the United States. She enjoyed knitting, cooking, baking, and storytelling. However her greatest joy in life was her family and sharing special times with them filled with humor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 5 siblings. She leaves to cherish precious memories, her children, Brian Riley, Annette Dietrich, Patricia Schwarz, Susan Drew, and Ivy Lee; 6 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors at the family owned Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, P.A.,1 2nd Ave SW (at Crain Hwy) Glen Burnie on Thurs., Oct. 12th from 3-5 PM. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thurs., Oct. 12th, beginning at 7:30 PM, in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be held in Arlington National Cemetery with her husband at a later date.
