Jack Earl Stephan, Sr, 84, Pasadena, Md, passed away on the evening of January 15th, 2025, with his wife of 66 years, Virginia Marie Stephan, by his side. Jack was born on December 28, 1940, to Harold Earl and Clara Virginia Stephan in Ferndale, MD. After attending Glen Burnie HS, he began a career in print media spanning over 30 years.
He started his career as a “fly boy” learning the trade, then working as a journeyman with The Sun Paper and News American. Later Jack was promoted to pressman, eventually retiring from Alco Gravure as the Pressman in Charge of Press 3. He was a member of several unions and served as a Shop Stewart for the Web Pressman Union. He met his wife Virginia, (Ginny) in grade school, Ferndale, Md. Jack and Ginny went on to have four children, Deborah Ann, Harold Earl, Michelle Marie and Jack Earl Jr.
In the 1990’s Jack retired and spent his time pursuing his passions: family, car and boat repair, antique car restoration, boating/fishing, and politics. Jack became known as a Carburetor specialist. Mountain Road Optimist Club was very important to him as well. He served as its President and was instrumental in the creation of the Mountain Road Soccer club, now known as Pasadena Soccer. He went on to become Lieutenant Governor for the MD Optimist Club. He also dedicated a significant amount of time with Lost In the 50’s antique car club. In 2011 Jack was once named “Rodder of the Year” by the Mid Atlantic Street Rodder’s Association.
Jack was predeceased by his father Harold, his mother Clara, and sister Doris. He is survived by all his children as well as five grandchildren, Stacie Clark, Madison Keedy, Patrick O’Hara, Samuel Groat and Stephanie Groat. Great Grandchildren include Tyler Clark, Logan Clark, Melanie Keedy, Natalie Keedy, Beckham Keedy, Owen O’Hara, Jameson O’Hara and Lincoln Groat. (Soon to be… Penny Groat)
Visitation will be held at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services on Tuesday, January 21st, from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 pm. Jack will be buried beside his parents at Glen Haven Cemetery in Glen Burnie, MD on Wednesday January 22nd. His service will begin at 11 am in the funeral home chapel.
