On, November 28, 2017, Jeanette Catherine Kirby ("Poppy"), 92, of Glen Burnie, passed away at Somerford House Assisted Living Facility in Hagerstown. Poppy was born on April 13, 1925, in Brookline, Massachusetts, to the late Catherine and Edward Chabot. She worked for many years at Sears in Glen Burnie in catalog sales, and then went on to work as an office clerk at Baltimore Uniform Rental Co. Poppy was a member of the VFW and Church of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church. She enjoyed knitting and sewing, gardening, and reading - especially history.
Poppy was predeceased by her devoted husband of 33 years, James C. Kirby. She is survived by her loving sons, James C. Kirby, Jr. and his wife Susan, and Joseph L. Kirby; her beloved grandsons, James C. Kirby III and Steven M. Kirby; and her dear brother, Donald Chabot and his wife June.
The family will receive visitors at Singleton Funeral and Cremation Services, P.A., 1 2nd Ave, SW (at Crain Hwy), in Glen Burnie, on Tuesday, December 5th, from 3-5 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will held on Wednesday, December 6th, at 10 AM at Church of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 1451 Furnace Ave, Glen Burnie, MD 21060. Interment at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
