Joan Alice Belch, 83, of Glen Burnie, Maryland, passed away on April 26, 2021, at Baltimore Washington Medical Center. Joan was born in Glen Burnie, on February 1, 1938, to the late Doris and John Gardner, Sr. She graduated from Glen Burnie High School and went on to work as a personal assistant at N.S.A. for 29 years. Joan volunteered at St. James’ Parish in Lothian, MD, by making lap blankets and shawls for those that need them. She enjoyed painting, crocheting, playing cards, bowling, traveling – especially camping, and she loved spending time with her family.
Joan is survived by her husband, George T. Belch; her loving son, Kevin Belch; her dear daughter-in-law, Dawn; her cherished grandsons, James (Maria Vera) Byus, and Steven (Sarah) Byus; her beloved great-granddaughters, Leah and Natalie; and her lifelong best friends, Nellie and Richard Jones. In addition to her parents, Joan was predeceased by her siblings, John Gardner Jr., and Doris June Gardner. She is also survived by many extended family & friends.
The family will receive visitors at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, 1 2nd Avenue, S.W. (at Crain Hwy) in Glen Burnie, on Friday, April 30th, from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. A Celebration of Life Service for Joan will be held at on Saturday, May 1st, at 9:30 AM in the funeral home chapel. The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org or the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
