On Thursday, June 1, 2017, John Anthony Clarke peacefully departed Earth and was reunited with his beloved wife, Dottie in Heaven. John "Jack" was born on October 21, 1934 in Baltimore Maryland, to the late John Stanislaus Clarke and the late Helen Mary Clarke, (nee McCosker). He and his 3 sisters were raised in Baltimore, and Baltimore would remain his home for 82 years.
John graduated from Calvert Hall College High School in 1952 and from Loyola College in 1956. He served in the United States Army from 1957-1959 serving his time in Japan. Upon his honorable discharge from the US Army, John worked as an accountant until he retired in 1997.
In 1974 he married his true love, Dorothy "Dottie" (nee Pearce). They were married until her death on December 3, 1995, which left a void in John that remained with him until his death. Until his health began to fail, John enjoyed running, golfing, watching sporting events and spending time with his family.
John was Godfather to so many of his nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews, and others, that he would just assume, unless told otherwise, that he was your godfather. His nieces and nephews all fondly remember that everything with Uncle John and Aunt Dottie was just pure fun. They made everyday things so special. He was the unsung hero, who just basked in the glory that was Aunt Dottie. Their love was like no other.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Dottie, his sisters, Patricia Sammer, and Margaret Prendergast and a niece, Dr. Maureen Prendergast. He is survived by his sister Jean Young and her husband Bill, his sister-in-law Lynette Sewell and her husband Bill, as well a 16 nieces and nephews who were honored to call him Uncle. They are, Patrick Prendergast and his wife Sue, Kathy Ensey and her husband Martin, John Prendergast and his wife Judy, Tim Prendergast and his wife Cheerie, Mary Prendergast-Crossan, and her husband Gerry, Michael Prendergast and his wife Kim, Karen Sammer Malley and her husband Ray, Diane Sammer, Stephen Sammer and his wife Eileen, Debbie Sammer Sigman and her husband Alan, JoAnne Sammer, Donna Drasher Grizzle and her husband Art, Susan Drasher Carson and her husband Butch, Denise Drasher Legge and her husband Rob, Lisa Drasher Siske, and Patty Drasher Alongi and her husband Gino. He is also survived by numerous great nieces and nephews as well as a host of loving friends.
May eternal rest be granted unto him, O' Lord and may his soul and the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
