On April 9, 2007, John J. Cunningham of Glen Burnie passed away after a brief illness. Beloved husband for 60 years to the late Mildred M. Cunningham; Loving father of Barbara Sutton, Jerome Cunningham, Tom Cunningham and Gregory Cunningham; Caring brother of Bernadette Wright, Anne Murphy and the late James, Tom, Jerome, Marlene, Victor and Joe Cunningham; Cherished grandfather of 8 and great-grandfather of 6. John J. Cunningham was born in Maryland in 1919. He graduated from Southern High School. He was then a student at the University of Southern California. Captain John J. Cunningham retired from the Baltimore City Police Department on May 22, 1975 after more than 27 years of service. He served as the former Captain of the Vice Control Section of the Criminal Investigation Division. He had joined the department in December of 1947. John also served his country as a member of the United States Army during WWII and was awarded the prestigious Purple Heart. He was also awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the Distinguished Unit Badge, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon and the World World II Victory Badge. He was a member of the Maryland Police Dept. Chief's Association and the Barbershop Harmony Society. He enjoyed hobbies such as singing, reading and working crossword puzzles. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. John was a dear man who will be missed by many.
