John R. (Bob) Lange, 87, former CEO of Lange Electric Co., Inc, who retired in 1986 died December 9, 2010 after a fall in his home in Pasadena, Md. John was a Licensed Master Electrician, a long standing member of Independent Electrical Contractors, a Charter member of the Chesapeake Chapter of Refrigeration Service Engineers Society (RSES), and during the 1960's, was an active member of the Electric Apparatus Service Association (EASA). , John shepherded the family firm, founded by his father in 1927, to a multifaceted, electrical equipment repair and distribution company.
John was a lifelong enthusiast of outdoor activities. He was a member of the Maryland Water Bugs, a pioneering SCUBA diving club during the 1950's and 1960s and enjoyed many local and distant dives. He also was an avid boater, hiker, camper, skier and was a serious bicycler who was often recognized by many on the local roads of Anne Arundel County during the 1970's and 1980's.
He served in the Pacific as a US Marine during World War II. Prior to his military service he worked at Friez Instruments Division, Bendix Aviation at Aberdeen Proving Ground. His work included research on proximity fuse technology and low-temperature, endurance testing of tracked vehicles.
After retirement John was active in the USCG Auxiliary; as a volunteer Ranger at Ft McHenry and as a volunteer in the electrical department of the John Brown Liberty Ship.
John also enjoyed travel in the 1970's, 1980's and 1990's with his wife of 49 years, Marie (nee Klima) who died in 1998.
He was a devoted father, involved in Boy Scouts, boating, hiking and outdoor sports. And as a grandfather, he shared watersports, hiking & bicycling.
He is a long time member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Pasadena, MD.
John is survived by sons Patrick Lange and daughter-in-law Marguerite; and Michael Lange and daughter-in-law Donna; and granddaughters Susan and Jennifer.
