On January 28, 2007, John Richard Vitchock passed away at the Charlestown Care Center. He was predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Laura Vitchock. John is survived by his loving children, David Vitchock, Jo Baguley, and Susan Calabro. He is also survived by nine beloved grandchildren.
John was a career Army Sergeant and during peacetime he was a food inspector. During World War II, he led tank destroyers in the 893rd Tank Destroyer Batallion. John also fought in the Korean War and served in Berlin, Germany during the Cold War.
Mr. Vitchock was the foreman for the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in Pennsylvania during the depression and kept close contact with the CCC and members of the 893rd Tank Destroyer Batallion by attending reunions which he thoroughly enjoyed.
John loved sports, traveling, animals, and spending time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren. His family will forever be thankful for their wonderful father and grandfather who always displayed a caring attitude and delightful sense of humor.
