John Wellham

John Ignatius Wellham of Ellicott City, a longtime resident of the Baltimore area, died suddenly on December 25, 2016 at the age of 90. He was born in Baltimore on March 16, 1926, the son of William and Fanny Wellham. After graduation from high school at Calvert Hall College in Baltimore, he went into the army. He became a Corporal in the 59th Ordnance Ammunition Company during WWII, serving in the Asia-Pacific region. He was awarded the Occupation Medal in Okinawa following the surrender of Japan. Following his military service, he worked for six years for the Maryland State Police before beginning a lengthy career with the Baltimore County Government. He retired in the 1990's from the county's Department of Transportation.
John was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. He was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Maryland State Police Alumni Association and the Loyal Order of Moose. He was a collector of antique automobiles and radios and was a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America, Chevrolet Club of America, Classic Car Club of America, Model T Ford Club of America, and Golden Radio Buffs of Maryland.
Survivors include sisters Marjorie Bavis and Frances Wellham; nieces and nephews Paul and Tim Bavis, Patty Bavis Gay, Roy, Mark, Martin, Anne and Robert Wellham, and Janet Wellham Connor; longtime close friend David Pedicord; and other relatives and friends.
