Joseph C. Whitacre, Sr., 82 of Glen Burnie passed away on June 2, 2015. Joseph was born in 1933 in Rio, West Virginia. He moved to the Glen Burnie area in 1942. Joseph worked for Maryland Shipbuilding and Drydock Company as a timekeeper for Sheet Metal, Boiler & Blacksmith Departments from 1952-1984. In 1987, he went to Naval Surface Warfare Center in Annapolis and retired as a Mechanical Engineer Technician in 1999. Joseph served in the Glen Burnie National Guard from 1951-1984 and retired as Mess Steward S.F.C. He was a member of the American Legion Post #277, Moose Lodge 1456, and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 21. Joseph enjoyed poker, horse racing, gardening, and spending time with his family, especially his two granddaughters, Kaylynn and Hannah Harding. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Catherine Whitacre (nee Mills); two daughters, Terry Clarke and her husband Steve, and Pamela Harding and her husband James; two granddaughters, Kaylynn and Hannah Harding; two sisters, Esteleen Harris and Madiline Hood; and two brothers, Ted and Gene Whitacre. He was preceded in death by his son, Joseph C. Whitacre, Jr.
