Josephine "Jo" Fahrenkopf

May 28, 1924 — July 13, 2020

Josephine Shea Fahrenkopf (“Jo”) of Annapolis, Maryland passed away on July 13, 2020 at the age of 96.  She previously lived in Teaneck, New Jersey; Leonia, New Jersey; New York, New York; and, Louisville, Kentucky.

She attended the St. Philip Neri School in Louisville, the Notre Dame Academy in Staten Island, New York, and the New School, University of Louisville.  An accomplished artist, she studied with both Stuart Davis and Ralston Crawford.  She had a one-woman show at the Aegis Gallery and her works were exhibited at the Sidney Janis Gallery, both in New York.

She was a draftsman at the esteemed New York engineering firm of Andrews and Clark, and designed the spacing of the wording of the Isaiah Wall near the United Nations (“they beat their swords into plowshares…”).  She was also a draftsman for the Township of Teaneck, New Jersey for many years.

Involved with community theatre in Leonia, New Jersey, she designed sets, posters, and programs and appeared in a production of “Our Town.”  She did the illustrations for “Get Ready to Read,” a children’s book by Toni S. Gould

She volunteered as a calligrapher for the White House, served as a docent for Three Centuries Tours Annapolis, and worked at the Annapolis Navy Exchange.

Jo loved spending time with her family, reading, painting, playing the guitar, and doing crossword puzzles.  She will be remembered for her quick wit and intelligence and her wonderful sense of style.  She is survived by her son Paul Fahrenkopf (Terry Holtzman), daughter Nancy Whiteley (Thomas Whiteley), granddaughter Samantha Malik (Sal Malik), grandson Charles Whiteley (Kendyl Whiteley), and great-grandson Callen Malik.
