Kathleen M. Yelshin

On July 23, 2023 our beloved Kathy, of Odenton MD, departed this world following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of Lee Yelshin; cherished mother of Alex Yelshin, adored daughter of Elizabeth “Betty” Parks and the late George Morris; Treasured step-daughter of the late Joseph Parks; loving sister of Mike Morris (Julia) and Jane Maccubbin (Scott); doting aunt of Megan Deeney, Graydon Hidalgo, and Trent, Brady and Cooper Maccubbin; caring daughter-in-law of Albert Yelshin and the late Sharlene Yelshin; kind sister-in-law of Penny Hidalgo (Perry). Kathy also leaves behind many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins and friends to treasure her memory. 

Kathy was born in 1962 in Pasadena, Maryland. An avid lover of science and space, she earned a bachelor’s degree from Virginia Tech and spent her career as an electrical engineer furthering our collective knowledge of worlds beyond. Kathy married the love of her life, Lee, in 1993 and was overjoyed to become the mother to Alex in 2006. Kathy loved spending time with her friends, with whom she shared an unbreakable bond through a love of all things science fiction. An unapologetic advocate of human and animal rights, Kathy enthusiastically supported many causes dear to her. 

Friends and family are welcome to call at Singleton Funeral Home 1 2nd Avenue, SW Glen Burnie, MD 21061 on Monday, July 31st from 2 pm - 4 pm and 6 pm - 8 pm. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, August 1st at 10am at the same location, with internment following immediately after at Glen Haven Memorial Park. 

We honor and cherish that Kathy always wanted to make people comfortable and accept them as who they are. In keeping with Kathy’s wishes, the family requests that all visitors dress in casual attire, preferring jeans and your favorite T-shirt over anything formal.
