Kathleen Anne Gronell Malloy, beloved wife, mom, grandma, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on September 4, 2021 at the age of 71.
Kathy was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 2, 1949 to T. Joseph Gronell and May Whalen Gronell. The second of their six children, Kathy grew up in Wantagh, NY. Kathy attended the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC where she majored in psychology. She was a member of the Kappa Tau Gamma sorority at Catholic U. Kathy graduated from Catholic University in May 1971. She also graduated with distinction from Loyola College with her Masters in Clinical Psychology. Kathy worked as the Johns Hopkins Hospital Clinical Psychiatry Program (CPP) Program Manager for 28 years. She excelled at diagnosing illnesses, counseling, and giving therapy to help her patients.
One fall evening during her junior year at Catholic U, Kathy met Tom Malloy at the Rathskeller on campus, and it was the start of something beautiful. Kathy married Tom on June 5, 1971. Surrounded by their family and an abundance of love, Kathy and Tom celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Tom, daughter, Tara (Rich) Caspar, son, Tom (Ohuwa), son, Mike (Martina), as well as six grandchildren, Molly, Ryan, Katie, Lily, Maeve, and Finn. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Kambak, brother, Tom Gronell, sister, Tricia Gronell, sister, Eileen Rinehimer, brother, Mike Gronell, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
Visitation will be from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, P.A. at 1 2nd Ave SW, Glen Burnie, MD 21061, on Wednesday, September 8, 2021. After visiting, you are invited to join Kathy’s family and friends for food and drinks at Italia’s Corner Cafe at 7089 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd, Glen Burnie, MD 21061, which is 8 minutes from the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am on Thursday, September 9, 2021 at St. Bernadette’s Church at 801 Stevenson Rd, Severn, MD 21144. Burial will be immediately following mass at Holy Cross Cemetery, 6020 Ritchie Hwy, Baltimore, MD 21225.
If you are unable to attend mass, it will be live streamed on St. Bernadette’s Facebook page ( https://www.facebook.com/stbernadette ) and available online to watch later.
