On September 1, 2017, after a brief illness Louis A. Wilkins passed away.
Lou was born on December 26, 1941 to the late Louis and Gertrude Wilkins in South Baltimore. He was raised in a close knit community and kept many of his childhood friendships well into adulthood, a special friend was Joe Koller who has been his best friend since Kindergarten. Louis learned responsibility and hard work at a young age having his own paper route. His work ethic was also something he carried into adulthood. He graduated from Southern High School in 1960, and later attended Towson University and graduated from University of Baltimore. Growing up in South Baltimore he met a young lady from the neighborhood and on August 3, 1968 he married her, Doral Fischer. Together Lou and Doral shared many wonderful years together for the past 49 years he brought her flowers just about every week, he visited The Corner Shop so much he began friendships with Jackie Jones and her staff. He joined the United States Marines and served from 1962 until 1966, when he was honorably discharged. He worked as a Marketing Manager for Kaydon Corporation and after a successful career he retired. Lou enjoyed golfing with his buddies; John, Vinnie, Koller, Tony and the late George Kropkowski. He also enjoyed painting, gardening, and keeping up with the Orioles and Ravens. However People brought the most joy to his life. He lived life to the fullest and loved being around people. As he went through life he cultivated many strong relationships and friendships with those he came in contact with from the community, to his profession. Lou loved people and loved giving just as much it can be said he would give you the shirt off his back.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He leaves to cherish precious memories his wife, Doral Wilkins; siblings, Christine Lynch and her husband, Eugene, Joann Thommen, Jimmy Wilkins, Michael Wilkins and his wife, Linda; numerous other relatives, and special friends.
The family will receive visitors at the family owned Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, P.A., 1 2nd Ave SW (at Crain Hwy) Glen Burnie on Wednesday, September 6 from 3-5 & 7-9 PM. A vigil and special memories will be shared beginning at 7:00 PM on Wednesday during the visitation. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, September 7, 10 AM, in the funeral home chapel.
